Electric car charging

Powering across the nation

ESB is responsible for the roll out of electric car charge points in Ireland. In March 2010, ESB installed the first on-street charge points in Dublin and they are now being deployed in other locations across the country. With three charging options available and an extensive nationwide charging network, electric car drivers will never be far from a charge point. The installation targets are:

  • 2000 home charge points
  • 1500 public charge points
  • 30 fast charge points

ESB is also implementing the supporting IT and payment systems which will have open accessibility for all energy supply companies and all types of electric cars. Naturally, the introduction of any new technology calls for extensive trials and research. ESB ecars is conducting pilot projects to analyse the infrastructure and collect data on consumer behaviour and trends.

One of the steps to buying an electric car is to sign-up for electric car charging so that drivers have access to public charge points and have a charge point installed in their homes. Signing up is easy, just fill out the form to register for electric car charging.
