The Great Electric Drive
ESB recently launched The Great Electric Drive for the second year running, and invited members of the general public and business organisations to join a new team of ecar ambassadors and drive an electric car. Our goal is to recruit people from all over Ireland with a range of different lifestyles and commutes to get plugged in and share their electric driving experience with the nation.
We were delighted with the very positive response from the public, with over 20,000 applications, which highlights the high level of interest in electric vehicles.
The selected ecar ambassadors will trial the latest range of electric vehicles, which have been supplied by car manufacturers, including BMW, Nissan, Renault, Citroen and Mitsubishi. To view the range of cars please visit the ESB ecars blog.
Twenty-four people will trial an ecar for a period of four months and research will be conducted during the trial.
The closing date for entries has now passed. We are currently evaluating the applications and will announce the new ecar ambassadors in April. In the meantime, please keep in touch with our website, blog and Facebook page to get the latest on ecar developments!

Background to the Electric Car Trial
The introduction of any new technology such as electric cars, requires extensive research and pilot projects. ESB ecars, in conjunction with European Programmes including TEN-T, Green eMotion, Mobi.Europe etc, is involved in a number of trials and surveys to analyse the charging infrastructure and collect data on ongoing consumer behaviour and trends.
