Galway City Council plugs into ESB ecars trial
ESB ecars is proud to announce Galway City Council as the latest participant in the nationwide electric car trial.
Galway City Council is one of a number of organisations participating in the national ESB ecar trial to support the implementation of ESB ecars nationwide charging infrastructure, understanding of driver's behaviour and attitude to electric transport as well as encourage the adoption of electric vehicles into company fleets.
Peter Keavney, Director of the Galway Energy Agency has been driving an ecar for the past 3 months and he commented, "The car is not much different to drive than a normal car of its size but you will definitely notice the difference in lower running costs." The ecar being trialled by Galway City Council is a Mitsubishi i-MiEV and a dedicated charge point was installed within the staff car park area. The trial will investigate the potential to incorporate electric vehicles within the council's transport fleet in order to reduce operational costs. Similar data from other county council will be included in the overall ESB ecar trial findings.
The logistics of the ESB ecar trial is being co-ordinated by James Lally, from Tuam, Co. Galway. He is currently on a student placement in ESB ecars as part of the Masters in Marketing Practice he is undertaking in the National University Galway.
The ESB ecar trial has been running for the past 18 months and other participating organisations include; Vodafone, Croke Park, Wexford County Council and IT Sligo.
