ESB ecars is partnering with Iarnród Éireann and Luas to deliver an electric car charging service at car parks and Park & Ride facilities nationwide. Public transport hubs are an ideal location for charge points as electric car drivers can charge their car while they are parked there. The 30 charge points have been installed in the following locations:

  • Iarnród Éireann: Drogheda, Newbridge, Sligo, Thurles and Kildare
  • Luas Park & Ride facilities: Carrickmines, Stillorgan, Sandyford and Red Cow

RPA Chief Executive, Frank Allen said that Luas had already made a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions and that this initiative is a welcome move towards making things easier for the electric car user. "Luas ecar customers can leave the car at the convenient charge point while they go about their business on the Luas," Mr Allen said.

ESB ecars is also rolling out public charge points in city centre car parks, shopping centres, leisure facilities and tourist attractions. To date more than 550 charge points have been installed in public locations, service stations, commercial premises and in homes across Ireland. ESB ecars is also providing FREE home charge points to the first 2,000 purchasers of electric cars.

Speaking at the launch, Paul Mulvaney, Managing Director ESB ecars said: "The availability of electric car charging facilities at major transport hubs such as Iarnród Éireann and LUAS caters for the longer distance commuters who can now extend the range of their journey by charging their ecar during the day and having a fully charged battery for their return trip."

Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann, Dick Fearn added: "Train travel is one of the most environmentally friendly ways to travel and commuting has just got greener with the provision of charge points at a number of stations for electric car users."
