Information for tenants
When you're renting accommodation, you probably move fairly often. That's why we try to make it as easy as possible to arrange your electricity supply.
Moving
Find out what you need to do when you are moving in or out.
Reading your meter
One of the first things you'll need to do when you move into or out of rented accommodation is to take a meter reading from:
- Your old meter: this will be used to calculate your final bill in your old home
- Your new meter: this will be used to calculate your first bill in your new home.
Changing account names
We try not to disconnect the electricity supply unless absolutely necessary. Find out how to transfer the Electric Ireland account in your new home into your name and the account in your old home into the name of an incoming tenant.
Closing accounts
If you're moving out of rented accommodation, you should contact us to close your account, with:
- The final meter reading
- The name of the new tenant, where possible
If you don't know this, provide the landlord or estate agent's name and contact number. If you do not provide these contact details, the supply will be disconnected and you will be charged the disconnection fee.
Paying your bill
There is a wide range of ways to pay your bill.
However, if you have never had an Electric Ireland account before, you will have to pay by Direct Debit, unless you pay a security deposit.
