Reconnections & new connections
If the electricity supply to your home has been disconnected, or you are moving into a new home with no electricity supply, here's what you can expect when arranging for connection.
Existing homes
The reconnection process will depend on how long your home has been disconnected.
Less than 6 months:
- Contact Electric Ireland on 1850 372 372 to arrange a reconnection.
How much will it cost?

6 months to 2 years:
- Get a registered electrical contractor to check and certify the wiring
- Contact Electric Ireland on 1850 372 372 to arrange a reconnection
Over 2 years:
- Get a registered electrical contractor to check and certify the wiring
- Submit an application form, ordnance survey map and site map to:

Newly built homes
If you are moving into a newly built house or apartment, contact ESB Networks on 1850 372 757 to arrange for a new connection.
- If your house or apartment is in a scheme, get the Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) from your builder or estate agent before calling.
- If your house is self-built, you will need to complete the application form for new connections (PDF) and send it to ESB Network Services Bureau, PO Box 29, Garrycastle, Athlone, Co Westmeath.
Before ESB Networks will connect you, you will need to get a certificate of wiring from a registered contractor and to register for an electricity account with a supplier, such as Electric Ireland at 1850 372 372.
