Rural 24hr tariff
Find out about metering, unit charges and other costs on the Rural 24 hour tariff. You're on this tariff if your profile number is 3 - check the blue box in the top right hand corner of your bill.
Charges are valid from October 1st 2009 and have been approved by the Commission for Energy Regulation.
Your meter
You will typically have a meter with just one dial that records all the General units (kWh) you use.
If you have night storage heaters, you will have a second single-dial meter.
Your bill
Your ESB Customer Supply bill is made up of:- Unit charges
- Standing charges
- A PSO levy (currently set at zero)
- VAT on the total amount at 13.5%
Unit charges
You pay a single unit charge for all the electricity you use. If you have night storage heating, you will be charged at a lower rate for those units.| Unit type | Cost per unit (Excl VAT) |

Standing charges
You pay a standing charge for each day that your bill covers.
Because the time period for each bill varies by a few days, your standing charge amount will also vary.

Other costs
There is an installation fee of €206.57 (inc VAT) for a night storage heating meter.
