Rural Nightsaver tariff
You can identify your tariff from your profile number, which is printed in the blue box in the top right hand corner of your bill. If your profile number is 4, you are a Rural Nightsaver customer.
Charges are valid from October 1st 2009 and have been approved by the Commission for Energy Regulation.
Your meter
You will typically have a meter with two dials:- One records the number of day units (kWh) you use
- The other records your night units (kWh).
Your bill
Your ESB Customer Supply bill is made up of:- Unit charges
- Standing charges
- A PSO levy (currently set at zero)
- VAT on the total amount at 13.5%
Unit charges
You pay two different rates for your electricity: a general rate during the day and a lower rate at night.| Unit type | Cost per unit (Excl VAT) |
|---|---|
| Day units (kWh) | €0.1506 |
| Night units (kWh) | €0.0745 |
Standing charges
As a Nightsaver customer, you pay slightly higher standing charges per day.
Because the time period for each bill varies by a few days, your standing charge amount will also vary.
| Per day charge (Excl VAT) | Average 2 month charge (Excl VAT) | |
|---|---|---|
| Standing charge | €0.4380 | €26.72 |
| Night storage heating standing charge | €0.0220 | €1.34 |
Other costs
There is no installation charge for changing your existing electricity meter to the special Nightsaver meter.
There is a charge of €170 (Excl VAT) €192.95 (Incl VAT) to change back to a standard meter.
Please note that to benefit from Nightsaver you would need to be able to convert a number of electricity units to night time use. The number of units depends on which tariff you are on.
Example:
A typical Urban or Rural customer using 5,300 kWh per year must be able to use a minimum of 3 units by night to benefit from Nightsaver
