Overview

The information in this section of the website describes the process for builders/developers who want to connect a new housing /apartment scheme or commercial/industrial development to the electricity network.

Important! Contact us early in project planning

We strongly recommend that builders/developers make contact with their local ESB Networks Area Office as early as possible during project planning. This is because ESB Networks has very specific requirements relating to the provision of your electrical connection and there may be a long timescale involved.

Find the contact details for your local ESB Networks Area Office

A preliminary discussion will be arranged with a member of ESB Networks' design team. As a result, our requirements can be incorporated into your project designat an early stage.

By contacting us early, you may prevent possible difficulties arising at a later stage.

Important! Avoid common application errors

Don't miss the following important details when making an application for a new multi-unit residential or commercial/industrial development:

  • The format of CAD files and hard copies must meet ESB Networks' requirements as specified in the application form.
  • Exact details of street names and numbering (i.e. postal addresses) as agreed with the Local Authority must be included.
  • Include details of all ancillary electrical requirements, e.g. lighting of public areas, landlord supplies, lifts, security lighting, etc.
  • You must clearly specify your metering requirements to ensure that correct metering is installed. Metering will be either CT Metering (greater than 49 kilovolt-amps) or Whole Current Metering (49 kilovolt-amps or less). A further choice exists between 'Single Tariff 'or 'Time of Day Metering'.
