North Wall
- Location: Alexandra Road, Dublin 1
- Technology: Natural Gas or Distillate
- Capacity: 262MW
- Commissioned: 1947
North Wall Generating Station was built in 1947 and was the first thermal power station developed by ESB. It is located in Dublin Port on the north side of the River Liffey.
In 1982, the station was converted to a combined cycle plant following a significant investment by ESB to purchase two new gas turbines and a waste heat recovery boiler.
The station generates 155MW (151MW exported) from the combined cycle unit and 107MW (105MW exported) from the open cycle unit. It is capable of running on two fuels – gas and distillate. The combined cycle has a 41% efficiency rate and the open cycle 29%.
Gas is piped into the station by Bord Gáis and distillate is delivered by tankers where it is stored in four 4,000m3 tanks. Generated power is fed to the grid at 220kV and directly into the Dublin City network at 38kV.
