Electricity Supply Board’s Georgian House Museum at Number 29 Fitzwilliam Street Lower, is delighted to bring you a packed programme of events for all the family, celebrating the richness and variety of heritage in the south Georgian core of Dublin city. All events are free of charge, though booking is required for some.

Saturday 21st August 1pm & 2pm: ‘A Little Adventure’
Number 29 has teamed up with Imaginosity, Dublin’s Children’s Museum to create a drama for children with parents. In ‘A Little Adventure’, you can return to 18th Century Dublin through the eyes of two very different children living in Number 29. Engaging and curious drama to educate and inspire young minds!

Sunday 22nd August, 3.30pm: ‘Vartry River Water’
Hear the fascinating social history of bringing clean water to Dublin in ‘Vartry River Water : A Pure Supply of Water for Dublin’ by Dr. Ron Cox , a talk on the 19th century Vartry river scheme, organised by the Industrial Heritage Association of Ireland in association with Number 29.

Wednesday 25th August, 1pm: ‘Roses from the Heart: The Story of Irish Covict Women Transported to Australia’.
A talk by Eithne Carey on this forgotten part of Irish social history.

Merrion Square Open Day
Saturday 28th August 2010, 10am-5pm
Now in its sixth year, the Merrion Square Open Day is a day of special events celebrating the rich and diverse heritage of Merrion Square and its surroundings. Explore Georgian Dublin in a relaxed and informal programme, taking in the houses, garden, and churches at the heart of the city. Visitors will have an opportunity to see properties not often open to the public and enjoy special talks, walks, and music in historic churches in a programme with something for everyone.
The event is organised by Electricity Supply Board (Number 29), in association with the Irish Architectural Archive, the Irish Georgian Society, St. Stephen’s Parish Church, the Irish Landmark Trust, the National Museum of Ireland, the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin City Council, the National University of Ireland, the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, Mercy International, the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, St. Andrew’s Parish Church, the Keough Naughton Notre Dame Centre; O'Connell House, and Sweny’s Chemist.

11am A History of St. Andrew’s Church Westland Row, with Gregory Pepper. Meet inside the church.
11am ‘In Search of a Lost Landscape: the Mews of Merrion Square’, exploring the mews houses and stable lanes of the Georgian city, with urban geographer and author, Dr. Ruth Mc Manus of St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra. Meet outside Number 1 Herbert Street. (opp.Pepper Canister)
12pm ‘Let’s Walk & Talk - Merrion Square: Notable Residents around a Beautiful Park’, guided walk with historian Pat Liddy. Meet at Rutland Fountain. Tour lasts 90 minutes (Courtesy of Dublin City Council).
12.00pm ‘Dublin’s Two Zoos’- Talk in the Natural History Museum with Catherine De Courcy, author of History of Dublin Zoo. Places limited to 20 on first come, first served basis.
12.30pm,1.30pm, & 4pm Chamber Music in the Pepper Canister Church, with musicians from Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music and Drama.
1pm 'Michael Stapleton and the Georgian Interior' - Illustrated talk in the RIAI, 8 Merrion Square with Dr. Conor Lucey, University College Dublin.
2pm ‘History of the Natural History Museum’, guided tour of this Victorian treasure with Nigel Monaghan, Keeper, Natural History Museum. Places limited to 20 on first come, first served basis. (partial wheelchair access)
2pm ‘Literary Merrion Square’- walk with literary historian Paul O’Brien. Meet outside 74 Merrion Square.
3pm ‘Blaze Away: Dueling and gun making in Dublin from 1780 to 1820’, a talk by Lar Joye, curator of Military History at the National Museum of Ireland. 58 Merrion Square, home of Daniel O’Connell 1809-1847.
