The Introductory Lectures for Cole Alley indicate that the Rudiment Box was to be used in association with text books and that "the little book of Geography which is sometimes read to you, will teach you how the land and water are divided; - the land into continents, islands, peninsulas, isthmuses, promontories, and capes: - the water into oceans, seas, straits, gulfs. Bays, lakes, rivers, and creeks". This map of Ireland is unique among the featured maps in the Rudiment Box in that the image of the country is clearly upside down in relation to the rest of the image.
