Turf development

Using our natural resources

ESB's development of turf burning stations as part of its strategy for economic use of Ireland natural resources has attracted much international acclaim.

The challenge

The development of these turf burning stations presented a considerable challenge to ESB engineers. This fuel, with its high moisture content, posed combustion problems that had to be solved.

The future

We are currently constructing new 'state-of-the-art' peat burning stations at Shannonbridge and Lanesboro to replace our existing peat stations.
