West Offaly Power
- Address: Shannonbridge, Co. Offaly
- Technology: Milled Peat
- Capacity: 150MW
- Commissioned: 2004
West Offaly Generating Station is a milled peat burning generation station located on the banks of the River Shannon at Shannonbridge, Co. Offaly. It comprises a single boiler/turbine unit with an electrical output of 150MW.
The station uses modern fluidised bed technology to burn peat (to produce steam for the turbine/generator) in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner. Due to higher efficiency the plant produces 30% more electricity for the same fuel input than the older plant which has been replaced. Over 37% of the primary energy supplied from the fuel is converted to electricity and supplied to the grid.
The station has a 15-year contract to burn peat supplied by Bord na Mona.
The power station was constructed as a replacement to the ageing 125MW Shannonbridge Power Station.
