About ESB ElectricAid Ireland

ESB ElectricAID Ireland was launched in July 2005, continuing ESB's proactive and caring tradition of assisting those in need.

Supporting social need in Ireland

Our staff voted to select two areas of social need from the many worthy causes in Irish society. They chose:

  • Suicide
  • Homelessness

These same areas were selected again in 2008 as our focus for another 3 years.

ESB ElectricAID Ireland deepens our traditional approach to funding good causes by seeking to make a focused impact on these two areas.

By August 2008, the initiative had funded:

  • 190 suicide projects
  • 106 homelessness projects

The initiative provides total funding of €1 million per year to a range of groups including:

  • National organisations
  • Research bodies
  • Regional charities
  • Local community and parish-based initiatives

ESB ElectricAID Ireland and ElectricAID

ESB ElectricAID Ireland is partnered with our staff social justice fund, ElectricAID, which has been supporting development projects in Ireland and across the world since 1987.

By 2008, 2,700 ESB staff were contributing members of ElectricAid.

This partnership means that ElectricAid (supported by matching ESB funding) now focuses primarily on long-term and sustainable development projects in the developing world, while ESB ElectricAID Ireland focuses specifically on suicide and homelessness in Ireland.
