Cúl Green
Cúl Green is a joint initiative between ESB Electric Ireland and the GAA which has helped make Croke Park one of the most sustainable stadiums in the world.
The Cúl Green initiative began in 2008 and very ambitious targets were set to reduce the carbon footprint of the stadium.
ESB Electric Ireland and the GAA played their part by putting in place a state-of-the-art environmental improvement programme at Croke Park covering the stadiums electricity, waste and water management systems. The stadium's electricity is sourced from renewable generation and supplied by ESB Electric Ireland.
Cúl Green has achieved great results to date with reductions in electricity, gas and water usage. Waste diverted to landfill has been dramatically cut. The stadium has been awarded ISO 14001 and is the first stadium in the world to be awarded the BS8901.
Fans all over Ireland have supported Cúl Green by making energy saving pledges on the Cúl Green web site and by fulfilling these pledges.
