Noel Dempsey praises ESB crews helping to restore power in Liverpool-Manchester
20th January 2007: Noel Dempsey T.D., the Minister for Communications, Marine & Natural Resources, praised the dedication and commitment of some sixteen ESB crews who set off for the UK today to help restore power to the thousands of homes still left without electricity after some of the worst storms there in seventeen years.
The sixteen crews and managers set off in ESB vehicles to work in the Manchester and Liverpool areas under the direction of Manweb, the networks utility in the area.
Minister Dempsey said the sharing of resources at times of need is an important factor in cross country co-operation.
"I am pleased that sixteen highly skilled and fully equipped crews are travelling to England to help the electricity restoration there. The work of restoring power to homes is an important task whether in Meath or Manchester and the co-operation that exists between the various utilities is a tangible example of the positive working relationship they have."
"I would like to wish these crews well, both for the journey and the work. I know that all those involved will do their utmost to get power back to customers who have been without power for several days as quickly and as safely as they can," he concluded.
