Minister for Education launches The Energy Challenge for Schools
30th January 2007: The Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin TD, today launched "The Energy Challenge" CD, aimed at raising energy awareness among national school pupils.
The CD which has been created by ESB Customer Supply in association with the Curriculum Development Unit at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick will be distributed to schools throughout the country.
The aim of the CD is help primary school children recognise energy waste in the home and become more energy efficient.
ESB Chairman Tadhg O Donoghue thanked the Minister and the Department for their co-operation and described the CD as another tool in combating climate change.
"By educating the children of this generation in energy efficiency, we are helping ensure that future generations will behave responsibly towards society and the environment."
The CD features a series of interactive games and audio facilities that tie in with the Primary School curriculum and encourage children to explore different areas of the home.
The CD is available in both Irish and English and can be accessed on the internet, it is available free of charge to all Primary Schools.
