Eimear Cregan is ESB Women Hockey's Player of the Year
10th July 2007: Eimear Cregan received the award of "ESB Women's Player of the Year" at this years ESB Dawson Travel Irish Hockey Awards on Saturday night at The Burlington Hotel, Dublin.
Cregan claimed the ESB Women's Player of the Year Award for her consistently strong performances for Ireland and for Cork Harlequins. To date she has attained 118 international caps for Ireland as well as scoring 18 international goals.
Cregan will be a member of the team that travels to Manchester in August to compete in the European Championships, where the top three teams will qualify for the 2008 Bejing Olympics. Ireland face stong opposition in this tournament where their group includes Holland, England and Italy.
Ulster athletes dominated the junior player of the year categories, with teenage sensation Amy Stewart capturing the "ESB Junior Women's Player of the Year Award". Stewart was outstanding in last year's U16 Eurohockey Youth Nations Championships, where Ireland girls won bronze medal for the first time ever. 2007 also saw Stewart being awarded her first full international cap, making her the youngest ever female international player at just 15. One to watch for the future!
