ESB International (ESBI) To Provide Engineering Services to Wavebob for the Development Of Wave Energy Generators

ESB International (ESBI) is to provide the Irish owned wave energy company, Wavebob, with specialist engineering expertise for the development of its wave energy converter over the next two years.
As part of the contract, ESBI will work with Wavebob on the design of its first grid-connected device which is due to be installed in Portugal in 2011.
ESBI will also provide electrical engineering services to Wavebob in the design, manufacture, testing and commissioning of medium and low voltage equipment on the Wavebob device.
Technical support in areas such as environmental assessment, grid connection and performance validation will also form part of the contract. The agreement will run initially over two years with an option to extend.
The Chief Executive of Wavebob, Andrew Parish, said, "We are delighted that ESBI has chosen to support Wavebob as we continue to progress our technology to commercial scale. We recognise the technical expertise that ESBI has and look forward to working with them".
ESBI Executive Director, Michael McNicholas welcomed the technical support agreement, "This agreement fits with ESB's strategic commitment to the development of a wave and tidal energy industry in Ireland that will support the economy through the development of new green jobs".

Wavebob Ltd is an indigenous technology firm, founded in 1999, headquartered in Ireland holding international patents for wave energy conversion technology.
Wavebob Ltd has produced the first Irish device and one of only a handful worldwide to have successfully harnessed the energy of the ocean waves. The prototype of 'Wavebob' was installed on the Marine Institute's test site at Spiddle, Co.Galway in March 2006. It was the first device to produce electricity in Irish waters, achieving 3000 hours of operation.
