Update on the situation on the River Shannon

24th November 2009:

ESB personnel have been meeting since early this morning to assess the flood situation on the Shannon. This involves a review of water levels downstream from Parteen Weir to assess the impact of the additional discharge. Flow measurements are also taken upstream from the weir, at Lough Derg and are also taken to indicate the scale of water volume still coming into the lake.

An assessment of the water levels must be considered with the Local Authorities and Emergency Services who are co-ordinating the response to the unprecedented rainfall levels. An update will be issued mid-morning.
