Press release
Statement from ESB regarding River Shannon as at 11:00am, Wednesday 25th November 2009
25th November 2009:
Water levels in Lough Derg have increased significantly overnight to an all time high due to heavy rainfall. The discharge of water from Parteen Weir must be increased today. The total rate of water discharge from Parteen Weir is not expected to exceed the rate set on Monday. However, it is expected to cause increased flood levels downstream of Parteen Weir by an estimated three inches as it is discharging into an already flooded area. ESB is working closely with the local authorities and emergency services through the Inter Agency Group to manage and mitigate the effects of flooding. The situation is being kept under constant review.
