Press release
Statement from ESB regarding River Liffey at 11:30am, Monday 30th November 2009
30th November 2009:
The flood on the River Liffey has peaked and is abating slowly.
ESB operates three dams on the River Liffey - at the Poulaphouca Reservoir, at Golden Falls (2 kms downstream) and at Leixlip. Yesterday, ESB did not discharge from Poulaphouca but did release water from Leixlip in order to alleviate flooding upstream in the middle Liffey area.
Levels on the Poulaphuca Reservoir remain high. As a result, it is necessary to discharge water in a controlled and gradual way throughout today. This level of discharge should minimise the impact of flooding downstream in areas already affected by tributaries and other flood sources in the Liffey catchment.
ESB is working closely with the Local Authorities and emergency services and is constantly monitoring the situation.
