Press release
ESB flood update at 10:00am on Tuesday 1st December
1st December 2009:
River Shannon:
Water levels in Lough Derg continue to fall and have dropped by a further 7cm in the past 24 hours. The discharge rate from Parteen Weir has reduced overnight by a further 7% due to the falling water levels. Subject to weather conditions, it is expected that this discharge rate may reduce further over the next 24 hours.
It is likely that water levels will recede slowly downstream of Parteen Weir by an estimated 7 to 8cms during the course of today.
ESB is still advising constant vigilance. The situation remains closely monitored and ESB continues to work with the Inter Agency Group which includes the Local Councils, HSE and the Emergency Services.
River Liffey:
The discharge from Poulaphouca Reservoir continued overnight. Levels are still high in the reservoir and it is necessary to increase the discharge this morning for a period of up to 3 hours.
Discharge rates will then revert to the levels that were maintained overnight. This increase will begin this morning but is subject to constant review and monitoring of weather conditions in the Liffey catchment area.
This increase is not expected to impact significantly on water levels on the River Liffey.
As in the case of the Shannon, ESB continues to work closely with the Inter Agency Group.
