The latest Irish energy news from ESB
Press release
ESB flood update at 5:00pm on Tuesday 1st December
1st December 2009:
River Shannon:
The situation on the River Shannon remains stable and discharge levels at Parteen Weir will be reviewed again in the morning (Wednesday, December 2nd).
River Liffey:
Flood conditions on the River Liffey continue to abate but water levels remain high in Poulaphouca Reservoir. As a result, ESB continues to discharge water from the Reservoir. The discharge from Poulaphouca Reservoir was increased for a period of 3 hours this morning, before reverting to the lower rate that prevailed overnight.
In order to further reduce water levels in the reservoir, it is now necessary to revert to the increased discharge rate for a period of five hours from 6pm this evening. This is not expected to impact significantly on downstream river levels.
This change will be subject to constant review and monitoring of weather conditions in the River Liffey catchment area.
ESB is working closely with the Local Authorities and Emergency Services in monitoring and managing the flood situation on both the River Shannon and the River Liffey.
