Press release
ESB Flood Update at 10:00am on Friday 4th December
4th December 2009:
River Shannon:
Water levels in Lough Derg continue to fall and have dropped by a further 5cm in the past 24 hours (since Thursday, 3rd December). The discharge rate from Parteen Weir has reduced overnight by a further 6% . Subject to weather conditions, it is expected that this discharge rate may reduce further over the next 24 hours.
It is likely that water levels will recede slowly downstream of Parteen Weir by an estimated 4 to 5cms during the course of today.
ESB is still advising constant vigilance. The situation remains closely monitored and ESB continues to work with the Inter Agency Group including the Local Councils, HSE and the Emergency Services.
River Liffey:
Reservoir levels remain high at Poulaphouca. Water levels on the Liffey also remain high and ESB continues to discharge water from Poulaphouca reservoir.
This discharge will continue but is subject to ongoing monitoring and weather conditions.
Continued vigilance is advised. Further notice will follow should the situation on either the Shannon or the Liffey change over the next 24 hours.
