ESB Electric Ireland Announces Electricity Price Changes
ESB Electric Ireland confirmed today (26th August) that its residential electricity prices will increase from 1st October 2011. This change will mean that the electricity bill for a typical customer will increase by approximately 12% when the reduced PSO Levy*, also effective from 1st October 2011, is taken into account.
ESB Electric Ireland, General Manager, Liam Molloy said; “We regret that we have had to increase our electricity prices at this time. We will continue to work with our customers who are facing difficulties in dealing with their electricity accounts”, he said.
“International energy prices have risen steeply over the past year and unfortunately we can no longer continue to absorb these increased costs without reflecting them in the prices we charge our customers. We have held off increasing electricity prices for as long as possible”, he added.
ESB Electric Ireland electricity unit rates and standing charges will increase by 14.8% as a direct result of the 40% rise in international gas prices over the last year.
While ESB Electric Ireland is revising its competitive price plan offerings (with immediate effect) we will continue to offer the Household Budget Price Plan, which enables customers who are in genuine financial difficulty to avail of a discount of up to 6% against our prevailing standard electricity unit rates. Customers who have opted for the discount price plans offered by ESB Electric Ireland on its entry into the competitive market in April will continue to receive these discounts (against the revised standard unit rates from 1st October) until 31st March 2012. ESB Electric Ireland will also continue to provide discounts of up to 6% against prevailing Bord Gais Energy regulated gas prices.
ESB Electric Ireland is committed to helping customers improve energy efficiency in their homes thereby reducing energy consumption and keeping bills to a minimum. We offer a range of innovative energy services and provide practical hints and tips on how to reduce energy consumption in our Energy Efficiency section at http://www.esbelectricireland.ie/
*PSO Levy for residential customers will be €3.65 (incl. VAT) per bimonthly bill from 1st October 2011 (was €6.20 (incl. VAT) for the period 1st October 2010 to 30th September 2011).
