Safety
Public safety, workplace safety - our first priority
Safe driving
The Safe Driving programme
In 2004, we launched our first Safe Driving programme to promote safe driving among our staff.
It includes:
- Safe driving policies
- Advanced driver training
- Specialist vehicle and equipment training
- Vehicle specification and safety checks
- Incident reporting
It proved a great success, not just by promoting the safety of staff also by building on our reputation as a best practice safety employer.
Since the launch, we have experienced:
- Reduced injuries to staff and the general public
- A reduction in vehicle collisions
- A reduction in motor insurance costs.
Driving toward the future
Our new three-year Safe Driving programme objectives include:
- Zero fatalities to staff, contractors or members of the public as a result of our driving activities
- Targeted reduction in all collision types in the commercial fleets
- Education of our staff on road safety
- Assisting the national road safety effort
We have entered into a three-year strategic alliance with the Road Safety Authority with the joint objective of reducing injuries and deaths on Irish roads.
We have also signed up to the European Road Safety Charter, in order to assist the goal of halving the number of traffic-related fatalities in Europe by 2010, which equates to 25,000 lives.
