Promoting sustainability to our staff
At ESB, staff support and engagement is a key part of our sustainability strategy.
Leading by example - our focused change programme
We want to lead by example by using energy responsibly in all our internal business activities - a specific aim of our focused change programme.
To drive that commitment, we aim to reduce our internal carbon footprint - our energy use in buildings and transport - by 30% by 2012, with complementary targets on waste and water.
This is in addition to ESB's target for reducing power station emissions.
To reach our target, our focused change programme runs projects including:
- Building efficiency
- Sustainable procurement
- Electric vehicles
- Workplace travel planning
Communicating our message & achievements
We have over 170 volunteer 'Sustainability Champions' throughout the company, spreading the message and encouraging their colleagues.
In 2008, we reduced our carbon footprint by 6% through the involvement and commitment of our staff.
We continue to advance sustainability throughout the company, through business unit managers, our 170 Sustainability Champions and the local partnership process.
