Energy Services
The Government has committed to achieving a 20% reduction in energy demand across the whole economy by 2020. Its National Energy Efficiency Action Plan sets out the path to achieving this target.
As the largest energy company on the island, ESB is committed to demonstrating leadership, integrity and professionalism to make this plan a success. ESB Energy Services was established in 2008 as a new part of ESB, to contribute and deliver on this plan of reducing Irelands energy demand and making the country more sustainable.
In support of this we have embarked on two major innovative programmes to date with more to come
- HIS, the Home Insulation Scheme
- The HALO Home Energy Efficiency Programme
In parallel, we continue to research and develop innovative, sustainable energy services for the Irish domestic and commercial markets.
HIS - the Home Insulation Scheme
The Home Insulation Scheme, or HIS, offered free home insulation to homeowners aged 65 and older who received the Department of Social and Family Affairs' Fuel Allowance.
ESB Energy Services co-operated with Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland (SEAI ) in this scheme with invaluable support from the Department of Social and Family Affairs.
SEAI run the Warmer Homes Scheme, which has similar objectives, in conjunction with Community Employment schemes around the country.
ESB Energy Services offered SEAI help in two areas in particular, south Leinster and east Galway.
The Home Insulation Scheme included:
- Installation of home insulation products for attics, cavity walls and hot water tanks
- Draught proofing
- Provision of CFL energy efficient light bulbs & lagging jackets
ESB Energy Services had initially planned to install energy efficiency upgrades in 1,000 homes, happily we were able to get the work done so efficiently that over 3,000 households actually benefitted from the Home Insulation Scheme during 2009 and early 2010.
We have received many letters from householders commenting on the significant improvement that they have noticed since the insulation was installed, as well as cheaper fuel bills.
