Poulaphouca Reservoir

Types of fishing & length of season
Poulaphouca is managed as a mixed fishery (trout and coarse). It is approximately 600 metres above sea level and is surrounded by 56 km of shoreline.
- Trout season: March 1 - September 30
- Coarse season: November 1 - September 30

Rules & regulations
Rules are as per the Fisheries Pike Bye-Law, 1990.
Fishing, boating and canoe permits are required for use.
- Please note all legal methods including trolling are allowed and fishing is permitted along the complete perimeter of the reservoir.
- The use of live bait and chandlers/maggots is prohibited for trout fishing and the use of live fish as bait for coarse fishing is prohibited.
- Only undyed maggots are allowed for coarse fishing.
- No fishing within 350 metres of the DAM.
- Bag limit: 4 Brown Trout per Day
- Size limit: 23 cms (9 inches).
- Signs should be checked locally re. closing times, as some amenities are closed at night
- Night time fishing is prohibited at all times.
Recreational boating
A permit is required for:
- Canoeing
- Rowboats
- Sailboats
- Boats with an outboard motor engine not exceeding 6 hp
- No inflatables less than 4 metres allowed
Boating season: November 1 to September 30
Lifejackets must be worn at all times
