Carrington power station was built on a brownfield site near Manchester, close to the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey. Previously, the site hosted a coal-fired station. The new 884MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant will be one of the most efficient thermal plants on the UK energy system and will generate enough electricity to power over one million homes and businesses.
