ESB opens new angling amenity at Lecarrow

ESB has today (24th June 2019) opened an angling facility at Lecarrow canal in Co Roscommon, in association with  Waterways Ireland, Inland Fisheries Ireland and Lecarrow Tidy Towns Association.

The work commenced in 2018 following agreement with the adjoining landowner to create the amenity along the canal.

At today’s opening of the new angling amenity, Tom Moran, Manager, ESB Fisheries said “I hope that this new angling facility will be enjoyed by the local community and will also attract both coarse and pike anglers from further afield, bringing increased tourist numbers to Lecarrow Village and the surrounding area.”

The Lecarrow Canal is situated adjacent to Lecarrow village in South Co. Roscommon, 18km north of Athlone.  It was first constructed in the 1840’s, and it is now a pivotal boat mooring point for Lough Ree. The channel itself is 1.5km in length, and is situated between the Lecarrow River and Blackbrink Bay on Lough Ree.
