Graduate recruitment for 2016 to commence Wednesday, 23rd September 2015

Fifty-five graduates from Irish third level institutions, spanning fields of engineering, IT, marketing and finance, are commencing a three year programme in ESB this week.

The Graduate Programme is a tailored three year scheme which will see these graduates develop both professionally and personally. It forms part of an ambitious drive by ESB to recruit the brightest talent from Irish third level institutions.

The graduates will be placed across ESB’s five business units – ESB International, ESB Networks, Generation and Wholesale Markets, Business Services Centre and Electric Ireland – in the coming years.

The graduates hail from a cross section of Ireland’s universities and Institutes of Technology.

Pat O’Doherty, ESB Chief Executive, welcoming the graduates to Head Office in Dublin, said: “The energy sector is undergoing a major transition which will require the brightest minds. ESB is committed to offering a rewarding and dynamic career path for exceptional people interested in addressing global energy challenges and shaping the future of Ireland’s energy system. These 55 new graduates will be given hands-on roles from the outset across our business units as ESB seeks to remain at the forefront of energy innovation.”

Welcoming the announcement Alex White TD, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, added: “Today’s announcement is another positive step in the ongoing recovery of the wider Irish employment market, which has seen unemployment fall from over 15% to 9.5% under this Government. I have no doubt that these excellent young graduates from a broad range of disciplines will be of huge benefit to ESB. They will also gain high quality experience as their careers progress in what is a rapidly changing business embracing power generation, networks, supply, trading, marketing and international consulting.”

Later this week as part of their induction, they will visit the iconic Turlough Hill hydro electric storage station which, 40 years on since being commissioned, is still regarded as a massive feat of innovative environmental engineering.

ESB has now finished its recruitment programme from all the colleges for its 2016 Graduate Programme intake.
