Friday July 1st, 2022

Electric Ireland has today, (Friday July 1st), announced plans to increase residential electricity bills by 10.9 per cent and gas bills by 29.2 per cent with effect from 1 August 2022.

The increase equates to €13.71 per month on the average residential electricity bill and €25.96 per month on the average residential gas bill, based on the estimated annual bill as defined by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU).

Commenting on the announcement, Suzanne Ward, Interim Executive Director, Electric Ireland said; We understand this price increase is unwelcome news for our customers.   We delayed this increase as long as we could, but unfortunately, the situation in Eastern Europe and a reduction in the reliability of gas flows has resulted in sustained higher energy costs throughout Europe. We have seen a very substantial increase in the cost of wholesale gas, which in turn, impacts both our gas and electricity prices.

“We are determined to continue offering the best value we can for customers by providing one of the lowest standard electricity rates in the market.  This rate is automatically available to all of our loyal customers – not just new customers.  We also have flexible payment plans for those who are struggling to pay their energy bills.

In addition, based on feedback that last year’s Electric Ireland Hardship Fund made a real difference in customers’ lives, we have pledged €3 million to a new Hardship Fund which will operate from Autumn to help customers experiencing payment difficulties at the coldest time of the year.”

Electric Ireland offers a range of solutions to help customers with financial challenges including flexible payment plans, payment holidays, PAYG meters, Smart Meter Plans, energy use insights and energy saving tips and advice.

At Electric Ireland we are aware that some of our customers may experience financial difficulties and uncertainty, and we have put in place a range of initiatives to support customers in such circumstances.

      • Included is a new €3 million Electric Ireland Hardship Fund opening this Autumn to help customers who have difficulty paying their bills. The fund will operate throughout the winter months and into next year to ensure customers who need assistance in paying bills are supported. Access and administration criteria for the new fund will be announced over the summer.
      • This brings to €6 million the amount Electric Ireland have committed since Winter 2020, to provide additional support to those of our customers who are experiencing difficulty in paying bills, not including bad debts.
        • In December 2020 Electric Ireland administered €1 million to support 10,000 registered vulnerable customers via a Christmas credit
        • In March 2021, a €2 Million Hardship Fund was announced to support customers who were having difficulty in paying bills initially as a result of the Covid pandemic and then as a result of increasing energy costs. The funds were administered by our partners SVP and MABS in the form of energy credits.
      • As a matter of course, Electric Ireland engages with all residential customers who experience difficulty paying their bills in line with the voluntary Industry Energy Engage Code and we encourage any Electric Ireland customer who has difficulty in paying their energy bill to contact  us and we will work with them to put in place a manageable payment plan.  We have many thousands of these payment plans in place at present.
      • Electric Ireland works with Fuel Poor customers who sign up to the Household Budget Scheme, or Industry Solution Prepayment Meter as a way to pay their energy bills and also apply a 5% discount.
      • We also provide several flexible payment options to help customers, including an Equaliser product that enables customers to spread their energy costs in equal payments across the year or to take a payment holiday by agreeing a plan to pay their bills over eleven months instead of twelve.
      • At Electric Ireland, we are committed to providing the best value to our customers and currently offer the lowest standard unit rate in the market for electricity bills, with an available additional enduring discount rate of up to 8.5% for direct debit and e-billing customers, which reduces those unit rates further.

Customers who are experiencing financial difficulty or having trouble paying their energy bills are asked to please call our team on 1800 372 372 or email service@electricieland.ie

Méadú ar Phraghsanna Fuinnimh fógartha ag Electric Ireland i bhfeidhm ón 1 Lúnasa 2022

    • Méadú 10.9 faoin gcéad ar Leictreachas Cónaithe, arb ionann é sin agus €13.71 sa mhí le bille leictreachais ar an meán
    • Méadú 29.2 faoin gcéad ar Ghás Cónaithe, arb ionann é sin agus €25.96 sa mhí le bille gáis ar an meán
    • An suaitheadh leanúnach geopholaitiúil atá taobh thiar den mhéadú nach bhfacthas a leithéid riamh ar phraghas an gháis mórdhíola
    • €3 mhilliún geallta ag Electric Ireland mar Chiste Cruatain chun tacú lena chustaiméirí
    • Tá an ráta caighdeánach is ísle in aghaidh an aonaid don leictreachas sa mhargadh á chur ar fáil ag Electric Ireland dá chustaiméirí a íocann de réir billí

Dé hAoine an 1 Iúil 2022

Tá Electric Ireland tar éis a fhógairt inniu (Dé hAoine an 1 Iúil) go bhfuil pleananna ag an soláthraí billí le haghaidh leictreachas cónaithe a mhéadú faoi 10.9 faoin gcéad agus billí le haghaidh gás cónaithe a mhéadú faoi 29.2 faoin gcéad. Beidh an méadú sin i bhfeidhm ón 1 Lúnasa 2022.

Is ionann an méadú sin agus €13.71 sa mhí anuas ar an mbille le haghaidh leictreachas cónaithe ar an meán agus €25.96 sa mhí anuas ar an mbille le haghaidh gás cónaithe ar an meán, na suimeanna sin bunaithe ar an mbille bliantúil measta arna shainiú ag an gCoimisiún um Rialáil Fóntas.

Agus í ag trácht ar an bhfógra, dúirt Suzanna Ward, Stiúrthóir Feidhmiúcháin Eatramhach Electric Ireland an méid seo: “Tuigimid go maith nach dea-scéala atá sa mhéadú seo ar phraghsanna dár gcustaiméirí.   Chuireamar an méadú seo siar a fhad ab fhéidir linn ach, ar an drochuair, tá costais leanúnacha níos airde fuinnimh ann ar fud na hEorpa mar gheall ar chúrsaí in Oirthear na hEorpa agus de dheasca nach féidir brath ar na sreafaí gáis an oiread céanna níos mó. Tá méadú iontach suntasach tar éis teacht ar chostas an gháis mórdhíola agus tá tionchar aige sin ar na praghsanna atá againne ar ghás agus ar leictreachas.

“Táimid diongbháilte go leanfaimid orainn chun an luach is fearr agus is féidir a chur ar fáil dár gcustaiméirí agus, mar sin, ceann de na rátaí caighdeánacha is ísle ar leictreachas sa mhargadh a sholáthar.  Tá an ráta seo ar fáil go huathfheidhmeach do gach duine dár gcustaiméirí dílse, ní hamháin do chustaiméirí nua.  Tá pleananna solúbtha íocaíochta againn fosta dóibhsean atá ag streachailt le híoc as a gcuid billí fuinnimh.

Anuas air sin, ós rud é go bhfuaireamar aiseolas go ndearna Ciste Cruatain Electric Ireland na bliana seo caite an-difear i saol custaiméirí, tá €3 mhilliún geallta againn le tabhairt do Chiste Cruatain nua a bheidh i bhfeidhm ón bhfómhar chun cuidiú le custaiméirí a mbeidh deacrachtaí íocaíochta acu le linn na tréimhse is fuaire den bhliain.”

Tá fuascailtí éagsúla ag Electric Ireland chun cuidiú le custaiméirí a bhfuil dúshláin airgeadais acu, lena n-áirítear pleananna íocaíochta solúbtha, sosanna ó íocaíocht, méadair íoc-mar-a-úsáidtear, Pleananna Méadar Cliste, eolas ar úsáid fuinnimh agus leideanna agus comhairle le fuinneamh a spáráil.
