ESB is committed to shaping a sustainable and secure energy system for the customers and communities we serve. Our 2025 Sustainability Report provides in-depth data and shares stories on how we are delivering today to make this happen – not just for us, for future us.
It is our first report aligned with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), a voluntary step we are taking to bring a new level of transparency to how we communicate our progress and the challenges we face as we work to embed sustainability right across our business.
Scroll down for an overview of what you can find in the report - from reflections from our leadership team, to a detailed look at our value chain, and quick links to the sections of the report covering topics under the three pillars Environment, Social and Governance.
Delivering today - for future us
Our Sustainability Report features stories from right across ESB highlighting the action we are taking today to shape a more sustainable future by decarbonising electricity generation, delivering resilient network infrastructure, and empowering customers and communities where we operate.
The report features an in-depth discussion with our Chief Executive Paddy Hayes and Group Head of Sustainability Sharon McManus, as they reflect on ESB's sustainability journey in 2025.
From the challenges brought by more frequent extreme weather, to new milestones reached in offshore wind and solar generation, and measures taken to support customers and communities around Ireland - read their insights into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
CSRD reporting goes beyond sharing details of our own operations. It requires us to identify and evaluate material impacts, risks and opportunities right across the value chain. Our report presents a detailed overview of ESB’s value chain and where sustainability impacts arise.
To prepare for CSRD reporting, we carried out a ‘double materiality assessment’ – examining all aspects of our value chain to identify 1) external factors that have a material impact on our business, and 2) those areas where our operations have a material impact on the world around us. Through this process we identified a number of material topics across the pillars Environment, Social, and Governance.

Environment
This section of our report looks at how our activities at ESB impact the planet and places where we operate: from how our renewable generation portfolio and network investment are supporting cleaner energy, to the work underway to enhance biodiversity at our sites, to our approach to resource use and circular economy.
Climate change
Decarbonising how we generate and use electricity is at the heart of ESB’s strategy to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Wherever we operate, we aim to actively help nature recover and thrive, developing a group-wide strategic roadmap to integrate biodiversity considerations into every project and across our assets.
We are investing to ensure Ireland’s electricity network can enable a decarbonised energy system, while supporting economic growth and security of supply.
People are at the heart of our approach to sustainability at ESB. This section of the report explores how we support and empower the customers and communities we serve, along with our own workforce and those who work in our value chain.
Our people
At ESB, our people are central to delivering our sustainability goals, and we are committed to protecting and enabling them to perform to their full potential.
With a presence in every locality in Ireland and across our sites in Northern Ireland and Great Britain, we pride ourselves on being a trusted and responsible partner to communities.
We are committed to providing consumers and end users with accessible, affordable and reliable services, while empowering them to participate confidently in a decarbonised energy system.
Robust governance and strong business conduct are essential to our ability to deliver our strategy and remain a trusted partner to stakeholders, customers and communities. This section also shares information on our entity-specific topics of Sustainable Finance and Innovation & Digitalisation.
Business conduct
ESB regularly assesses business conduct-related impacts, risks and opportunities arising from how we operate and engage externally.
As part of our financing strategy, ESB leverages sustainable finance instruments, including our Green Bond Framework and Sustainability Linked Revolving Credit Facility.
Our Group innovation strategy enables both incremental innovation and the design of new products, services and ways of working in support of our net-zero goals.
